What is Volunteer Experience?

Volunteer Experience is a pre-orientation program with the goal of introducing our first year students to Lehigh University's campus and the surrounding area through community service.

For the three days of the Volunteer Experience, students are immersed in rewarding service projects and lend a helping hand to the local community while meeting and bonding with other incoming first year students.

The service projects will be lead by upper-class students, many of whom have participated in this program as first-year students and continue to do so as leaders. Aside from volunteering in the community, during the evenings students get to relax, unpack, and take part in some great events on and off campus. The cost of the program covers all expenses including housing, site fees, food, transportation, and entertainment. As soon as students arrive in August, they will be able to move into their rooms and then attend a student and family orientation.

Following the orientation program, students will begin working on service projects. (See the schedule of events for more details.) Helping others in your new community through the Volunteer Experience is a great way to start off first year of college. So pack up your boxes a few days early and come lend a helping hand!

Volunteer Experience is a project of the Community Service Office in partnership with the Office of First Year Experience.
