Dean of Students Office Welcomes Seven New Staff Members

Assistant Director of First-Year Experience and Orientation
Kara Gensamer joins us as the Assistant Director of First-Year Experience and Orientation.  Kara has spent the last three years working in residence life at Rutgers University, where she was awarded Hall Director of the Year in 2013. Before pursuing her Masters Degree at Rutgers, Kara attended Rowan University for her Bachelor of Arts degree in education and spent a year teaching 7th grade math.

Office of Residence Life
Ashley Gray will join our team this year as an Assistant Director of Residence Life.  Ashley will directly oversee Campus Square, Brodhead, and Warren Square residence halls with over 400 upper-class students including the Live Lehigh communities.  Some of you were able to meet Ashley during her interview process.  Ashley completed her Bachelor of Arts at Lafayette College in International Affairs.  Then, she remained in the Lehigh Valley and attended Cedar Crest College for her Master of Secondary Education with social studies certification.   

While at Cedar Crest College, Ashley served as a Graduate Hall Director and managed several residence halls while supervising a staff of Resident Assistants.  Ashely also brings curriculum writing experience from her student teaching at Emmaus High School and her involvement with the Lehigh Valley Summerbridge program and Moravian Academy.

Office of Student Conduct & Community Expectations
Holly Taylor will be joining the Dean of Students Office and the Lehigh University Community on July 1, 2014. Holly joins us from the University of North Carolina Wilmington and she has 8 years of student conduct experience. Holly also brings skills in the areas of Mediation, Assessment, and work with Title IX to our office. Holly received her B.A. in Communications from the University of North Carolina, Greensboro and her M.Ed. in College Student Affairs from the University of South Florida.

Director for Student-Athlete Academic Services
Katie Guynn has accepted the Director for Student-Athlete Academic Services position within the Office of Academic Transitions. Katie comes most recently from Temple University where she served as an Academic Advisor for Athletics. In her role at Lehigh, Katie will be responsible for the development and management of a comprehensive academic support model, tracking and monitoring students' academic progress, as well as being a liaison to the Athletic Department in an effort to support student-athletes' success at the university. We are very excited to have Katie on board and look forward to the contributions she will undoubtedly make to our students' experiences.

Office of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs (OFSA) will be bringing on two new Assistant Directors to join the staff for 2014-15.
Elizabeth Shayler has accepted the position of Assistant Director of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs. Elizabeth will be coming to Lehigh from Harvard, where she spent the past several years working for the Offices of Housing and Advising Programs at Harvard College. Elizabeth has also spent time at Pace University and Vanderbilt University, where she received her Masters Degree in Higher Education Administration. Elizabeth brings extensive experience in Greek Life, housing and first year programming to Lehigh, and is an exciting addition to our staff.

Carter Gilbert will be joining OFSA from Colorado State University. While at Colorado State, Carter served as a Graduate Assistant in the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life. Carter advised and mentored the Multicultural Greek Council, including overseeing the expansion and recognition process for two new culturally based organizations. Carter also assisted in the development of CSU’s Greek Week, Fraternity and Sorority Leadership Institute and Emerging Leaders Conference.  Carter also served as a Teaching Assistant and Guest Instructor for several credit bearing classes, including Greeks against Sexual Assault; Gender Identity Development and Inclusive Leadership for Greek Students.  Carter is a recent graduate of CSU with an M.S. in Student Affairs in Higher Education, and is a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity.

Jennifer Tedeschi will be joining OFSA from American University. Jennifer served as a Graduate Assistant in American’s Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life. Jennifer advised the Interfraternity Council, Panhellenic Association and Fraternity and Sorority Life Programming Board. Jennifer managed the expansion process for both governing boards, and also helped the councils revise their financial management and election structures. Outside of American Jennifer serves as a volunteer for the Northeast Greek Leadership Association (NGLA) and serves as a Training for Intervention Procedures (TIPS) trainer.  Jennifer is a recent graduate of George Washington University with an M.A. in Higher Education Administration, with a concentration in Student Affairs. Jennifer is a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority.
