Position Overview
The after-school homework club tutor provides academic support, mentorship, and supervision to elementary and/or middle school students during after-school programming. The primary responsibility of the tutor is to create a welcoming, safe, and enjoyable environment where students can complete homework assignments, strengthen academic skills, and build positive relationships with peers and adults.
Homework club tutors support students individually and/or in small groups while encouraging responsibility, perseverance, organization, and confidence. In addition to academic assistance, tutors serve as positive role models and mentors who help foster a supportive after-school space through compassion, consistency, patience, and professionalism.
Key Responsibilities
Academic Support
- Assist students with homework completion across subject areas including reading, writing, mathematics, science, and social studies
- Provide one-on-one or small-group academic support based on student needs
- Help students stay focused, organized, and engaged during academic work time
- Encourage students to work independently while providing guidance and clarification as needed
Mentorship & Student Engagement
- Build positive and authentic relationships with students through consistent and positive interactions
- Serve as a positive role model by demonstrating respect, responsibility, reliability, and kindness
- Foster student confidence, motivation, and perseverance when completing challenging tasks
- Help create a welcoming and inclusive environment where students feel safe, supported, and valued
- Encourage appropriate peer interactions and respectful behavior
Program & Environment Support
- Help maintain a safe and productive after-school environment
- Supervise students during homework time, enrichment activities, transitions, and snack or recreation periods
- Communicate student concerns, successes, or needs with site leaders and supervisors
- Support consistent routines and expectations within the homework club setting

Qualifications
- Current Lehigh University student in good academic standing preferred
- Interest in community service, education, child development, counseling, psychology, social work, or related fields preferred
- Experience working with elementary and/or middle school students preferred but not required
- Ability to work with site leaders, supervisors, and families as needed
