Students, faculty, and staff of all gender identities at all levels of healing from primary, secondary, and vicarious trauma are welcome and can benefit from trauma-informed yoga.
Please sign up at lehigh.edu/go/tbybyoga
Trauma-informed yoga is a research proven way to help survivors of sexual trauma and those experiencing vicarious trauma heal from their trauma symptoms. It is a combination of focused breathing and mindfulness skills, as well as healing poses. Trauma-informed yoga is an opportunity to learn how to work with your own discomforts. It is a judgment free zone where every participant is able to go at their own pace and skill level. The practice is not meant to be a high cardio or strength training workout, it focuses on grounding, breathing, and mindfulness with comfortable, stretching poses.
Our instructor, Liz Jordon, is certified in trauma-informed practice. The instructor does not leave her own mat and will never touch participants to adjust their pose throughout the practice. It is a space where your body is entirely yours.
The experience of stress leaves a chemical footprint that is initiated with your breath. Often, this stress response is unconscious and also necessary, providing energy to match the need. However, if the chemicals of stress become a habit or go unchecked, the body's immune system response is weakened.
Fortunately, the same breath - made conscious - acts as a remedy and resource to bring the body and mind into balance. In this session you will learn about the physiology of stress as well as participate in useful practices from yogic tradition. Breath, movement and mindfulness support overall physical, emotional and mental well being.

On Sunday, September 3rd Sigma Phi Epsilon, Alpha Gamma Delta, and Theta Chi are hosting its annual color run. The event will begin around 2pm and end at approximately 4pm. The color run is a fundraising event as a part of our philanthropic goal to give back to our local community.
All of the proceeds from this event will go to the Hispanic Center of Lehigh Valley. This 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization serves low-income individuals of South Bethlehem through food distribution, senior citizen programs, and much more.
The actual event will consist of a run starting from 92 Upper Sayre Park Road, in the Sigma Phi Epsilon parking lot, and continuing down the hill towards the center of campus near Packard Lab. There will be volunteers from all three organizations to help lead the runners throughout the course.
Going beyond the idea of a normal run, a ‘color run’ consists of participants wearing white t-shirts and being doused in different colored powders as they run. We will have different checkpoints where volunteers from our Greek Chapters will throw the powder onto the runners as they make their way along the course.
Participants will be asked to make a donation of $15 in order to be a part of the run. These costs will go into everyone receiving a color run themed commemorative t-shirt that will be worn during the event.
