Academic Coaching Defined:

Academic coaching is a personalized approach to develop and strengthen the academic skills needed for undergraduate and graduate students to have success in their chosen degree of study. Through 1:1 sessions, our academic coaches motivate students to establish goals and define action steps to meet them. The underpinning of our coaching plan is to assist students in managing their time holistically, finding balance in their personal and academic experiences. In utilizing this resource, students will gain understanding of their strengths and weaknesses and value resources to support their success.

Meet Our Coaches:

Marianna Angle

Hi I’m Marianna, I’m a sophomore and I’m a biology major on the Pre-Dental track. Adapting to college was a huge challenge for me, finding what worked for me took a lot of trial and error. But, I’m excited to use what I learned to help others! Some fun facts about me include I’m from Brooklyn New York, I used to be a competitive dancer, and my favorite show is How I Met Your Mother! Mohammad Bahadori Fallah

Mohammad is a fifth-year Ph.D. student in Special Education at Lehigh University and serves as an Academic Support Graduate Assistant in the Office of Academic Success and the Writing Center. He is also a Lehigh-trained mentor and has mentored graduate students in the past, supporting their academic and professional development. He previously worked as a Graduate Writing Consultant in the Graduate Writers’ Studio, where he supported students with dissertations, proposals, and applications. In addition to publishing journal articles and presenting at several academic conferences, his research focuses on special education teachers’ emotions and their impact on student outcomes. Through his roles in academic coaching, Mohammad is committed to helping students strengthen their time management and study strategies to achieve their personal and professional goals. Visit Compass to make a meeting with Mohammad.

Riley Carickhoff

My name is Riley Carickhoff, I am a sophomore majoring in Economics in the College of Arts and Sciences. I am excited to be a coach because as someone who previously struggled with organization and time management, I feel I can give students an understanding perspective and advice from my lived experience that truly worked for me. I am on the executive board of Lehigh Women in Business, a member of Gamma Phi Beta, and also play on the club field hockey team! I love to cook, run, and read in my free time. Steve Hofmann

Steve Hofmann is a sophomore studying Mechanical Engineering and Finance in the IBE program. He also plays drums for the Lehigh Jazz Combos. He is looking forward to working with students and helping them build study habits. Visit Compass to make a meeting with Steve.

Kathryn Hooper

My name is Kathryn Hooper and I'm a sophomore here at Lehigh. I'm pursuing a Dual Degree in Finance and Art History. I'm excited to help fellow students learn important study habits and learning skills that can transfer across disciplines and colleges here at Lehigh. Olivia Ma  

Olivia is a junior majoring in Pre-Dental Science in the 7-year dental program with the University of Pennsylvania. She aims to work alongside Lehigh students, creating long-lasting study habits and plans for academic success. Outside of class, Olivia is a member of Peer Health Advisors and the Lehigh Philharmonic Orchestra, and in her free time, enjoys crocheting and watching Netflix reality shows.Visit Compass to make a meeting with Olivia.

Gabriela Quinteros

My name is Gabriela Quinteros, I am a junior studying Bioengineering and I'm from Santiago, Chile. As an international student,  I can attest to the struggle of adapting to a new life AND managing classes on top of it. Allie Shephard

Hi, I am Allie Shephard and I'm a junior majoring in Civil Engineering through the 4+1 B.S./M.S. program along with a minor in Real Estate. I am excited to meet new students and help them with organization, time management, and study skills. Since every student learns differently, I look forward to providing various strategies to help you figure out what methods work best for you! Outside of class, I am the outreach co-chair on the executive board of Society of Women Engineers and an active member of Engineers Without Borders and the Lehigh Symphonic Band. Jackie Tehrany

Jackie is a junior studying psychology on the Pre-PA track. She is also minoring in biology and child & maternal health. She is a member of Break the Silence and enjoys working out and reading. Her goal is to make a positive impact on Lehigh students and help improve studying and organization skills and help improve mental health in the process. Aurora Wilson

Aurora is a junior chemistry major with a minor in environmental engineering. Using this major, she wants to pursue environmental chemistry field work before eventually pursuing a PhD. At Lehigh, she also is on the varsity cross country and track teams and is also a tutor. In her free time, she enjoys reading and crocheting. Yvonne Lee, PhD (graduate students only)

  • Yvonne directs the Graduate Life Office (GLO) Academic Support program, which includes academic coaching. She has a doctorate in Literacy, Rhetoric, & Social Practice from Kent State University, where she studied the needs and experiences of graduate student writers. Yvonne has worked as a writing consultant since 2007 and has worked primarily with graduate students since 2020. Yvonne is dedicated to meeting graduate students where they are, helping them find their strengths, and supporting them through their graduate school journeys.

Frequently Asked Questions

Academic coaching is a student-directed experience and focuses on your goals - come prepared to share your academic experience and what you want to accomplish.

Tutoring focuses on learning and understanding course content while coaching focuses on how you approach your academics and strengthens your skills like time management, organization, and goal-setting as examples.

When scheduling your appointment, please check your schedule to ensure you have no conflicts. In cases of cancellation, please do so as soon as possible and no later than 24 hours in advance whenever possible. A pattern of cancellations or no-shows may limit access to this resource.
