The Center for Academic Success, an office within the Dean of Students, is looking for applicants for a Graduate Assistantship for the 2024-2025 academic year.  The Center offers peer tutoring in many first-year and second-year courses and provides study skills assistance to Lehigh undergraduates.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist Lehigh undergraduate and graduate students with the following academic skills: study strategies, time management, note taking, test preparation, test taking, academic goal setting, and other skills as needed.  The Graduate Assistant is knowledgeable about the undergraduate student experience and Lehigh's resources.
  • Conduct one-on-one academic coaching meetings with students on a regular weekly basis to discuss academic success strategies.
  • Conducts study skills workshops for the 5x10 programming series, first-year student orientation, fraternities, sororities, athletic teams, residence halls, student groups/organizations, and university departments/offices as well as the Center for Academic Success' signature workshop series.
  • Recruits, interviews, selects, and trains the volunteer Peer Academic Coaching staff
  • Oversees the Center for Academic Success' social media account which includes creating and posting to Instagram and supervising the work study student(s) who assist with creation social media posts.
  • Works closely with Academic Life and Student Transitions staff and may be asked to perform other duties such as academic coaching for Disability Support Services, procotoring exams, performing academic outreach, and representing the Center for Academic Success at campus events.       

Qualifications:   

  • Enrolled in a graduate program at Lehigh University (College of Education preferred)
  • Works well independently and shows a high level of initiative
  • Knowledgable about academic success strategies
  • Demonstrates strong technology skills and ability to learn quickly 
  • Ability to work effectively with undergraduate students
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
  • Strong presentation and facilitation skills

Compensation:

Compensation includes tuition credits up to 9 College of Education credits per semester and a stipend of $20,160 paid bi-monthly.  Graduate Assistants are also provided with professional development opportunites and vacation time. 

Position Details:

The positon will start August 12, 2024 and end on May 14, 2025.  The assistantship requires 20 hours of work per week (with the exception of December 19-January 12) and the Graduate Assistant should be available to work a mix of daytime, evening, and weekend hours as needed.

Graduate assistants are expected to work at least three (3) days per week (Monday through Friday) with at least eight (8) hours of work in person per week.  The Assistant Dean and Graduate Assistant will work together to create a schedule that meets the needs of the Center for Academic Success and the GA's academic and personal commitments.
