The place settings at the Turning Point vigil are a local representation of an Empty Place at the Table. The Empty Place at the Table Memorial Project was founded in 1993 in Scranton, PA, following the tragic murders of two women and one child within a span of twenty-two days. Inspired by the "AIDS Quilt" and Judy Chicago's art exhibit "The Dinner Party," advocates from the Women's Resource Center (WRC) and surviving family members created the project to humanize the domestic homicide statistics. The memorial features an art installation with dinner place settings, photographs, and personal belongings, each representing a victim of domestic violence killed in Lackawanna or Susquehanna Counties, PA. The project's mission is to honor the lives lost, raise awareness about the fatal impact of domestic violence, and drive social change.
