Trauma-informed yoga is a research proven way to help survivors of sexual trauma deal with their trauma symptoms. It is a combination of focused breathing and mindfulness skills, as well as healing poses. Trauma-informed yoga is an opportunity to learn how to work with your own discomforts. It is a judgement free zone where every participant is able to go at their own pace and skill level. The practice is not meant to be a high cardio or strength testing workout, it focuses on grounding, breathing, and mindfulness with comfortable, stretching poses. Our instructor, Liz Jordon, is certified in trauma-informed practice. The instructor does not leave her own mat and will never touch participants to adjust their pose throughout the practice. It is a space where your body is entirely yours. Students, faculty, and staff of all gender identities at all levels of healing after a trauma are welcome and can benefit from trauma-informed yoga. Take Back the Night is an annual silent march to show support and solidarity for survivors of gender based violence followed by a speak out where survivors can tell their stories in their own words. Confidential resources from the Lehigh University Counseling Center and Crime Victims Council of the Lehigh Valley, as well as, Gender Violence Support Advocates and other campus and community resources will be available. Refreshments will be served and self care gift bags will be given out. This event offers a safe and welcoming space for sharing stories and speaking out, but it does not offer a strictly confidential space. Depending on the nature of the stories shared, the University police may be obligated by law to follow up in some fashion with the speaker or to investigate further. The University will not initiate its own individual investigation unless the survivor initiates a complaint with the Title IX Coordinator.
