GRYPHONS OF THE MONTH (2019-2020)

One of the traditions in the Gryphon Society is for the Gryphons to nominate their peers for the "Gryphon of the Month Award".  The award allows for Gryphons to recognize those across the Society who have consistently performed above the expectations of a Gryphon, aided in the success of their staff, accomplished something significant, or other notable contributions.

September 2019: Michael Stragapede and Rylie Urbanski

October 2019: Amie Januszkiewicz and Matthew West

November 2019: Allison Codi and Demi Lambadis

OFFICE OF RESIDENCE LIFE ANNUAL BANQUET

The Office of Residence Life holds the Annual Banquet in April to recognize the achievements of the Gryphon Society, Residence Hall Association, Residence Hall Councils, and the Live Lehigh Communities.  Lehigh is committed to values of excellence, integrity, equitable community, intellectual curiosity, collaboration, and leadership, and we in the ORL know that our student leaders are some of the best that the University has to offer.  We are thankful for each student who has worked with us to build a strong and vibrant residential community.

THE DEAN CLARENCE B. CAMPBELL AWARD

Previous Associate Dean of Students and Director of Residence Life, Clarence Campbell once said, “(The Gryphon Society) is a responsibility to the University and to students...so that we can have a significant encounter with (them) that will make their lives different because they came our way.  That's my thing- and I call it the Gryphon Society.”  This award is offered in memory of Dean Campbell’s vision and commitment both to the Office of Residence Life and our residential student community.  The honoree excels beyond the expectations of their supervisor and the department.  This Gryphon has demonstrated genuine leadership, willingness to accept responsibility, and the ability to mentor fellow Gryphons.

THE DR. JOHN W. SMEATON LEGACY AWARD

This award is named in honor of the Vice-Provost for Student Affairs, Dr. John W. Smeaton, who has served the Lehigh community for 32 years. Similarly, the Office of Residence Life and Gryphon Society wish to recognize a graduating returning Gryphon  for their multiple years of service “keeping the gold” on Lehigh’s campus. The recipient should exhibit some, if not all, of Dr. Smeaton’s acclaimed qualities, which include: being a strong team player, having a collaborative mindset, committing to student advocacy, and having a sense of dedication to the Lehigh University community.
