Innovative Leadership: Connecting Creativity and Imagination to Leadership Potential
Workshop Descriptions
Peter Costa – Leadership for Healthier, Safer Campuses
The program will introduce students to a concept of health promotion in higher education and use Lehigh University as an example of a cross-departmental approach to foster healthy living and learning. The program will discuss preventative measures on campuses and can use what they learn to provide effective interventions for a safer, healthier community.
Ed Ryan – It’s Results That Count!
Ed Ryan will discuss lessons learned in businesses and organizations, focusing on skills such as personal networking, relationship building, community relations, legislative education and advocacy. These skills will help build an effective employee and leader in a creative manner and allow students to adapt the skills to outpace competition.
Sheron Tang, Jake Puzycki, Jenn Scaia – A Call to Mindful Leadership
These presenters will take the group on a meditative journey to become aware of mindfulness in oneself. By becoming aware of ourselves, our surroundings and other people, we are capable of handling stressful situations that may arise when being a leader. The exercises will teach students to think creatively, maximize potential and foresee problems that may come up.
Kane Kuharik – Follow The Leader
Kane Kuharik will discuss “followership” and the importance of followers to allow groups to succeed. Although followers are often neglected, followership impacts leadership and having an understanding of followers helps to gain skills in listening and evaluating situations that others are in control of.
Trisha Alexy – Communicating Leadership
Trisha Alexy will discuss how business is personal and teach the ways in which you can assertively express your leadership identity, command attention, build relationships and manage conflict. Along with learning Lee Iacocca’s 9C’s to Leadership, students will gain an understanding of how to effectively communicate in a group.
Ryan Bissonnette and Jason Schiffer – Changing the Apple Cart to an Orange Cart: Approaching Innovative Leadership Through Creativity
Disrupting the status quos and disturbing social norms is an innovative way to make change. By discussing past and present innovators, students will be trained on how to challenge the status quo in the future in an effective way. The presenter’s real-world experiences will provide great examples for how to make an innovative change in a community.
Caz Russell – Leadership is a Choice!
Meet Chilli, a golden retriever, and see him demonstrate the dynamics of leadership principles. Learn first-hand how learning desired human behaviors increase our leadership skills. Caz Russell and Chilli work as a servant/leader team to accomplish tasks. Chilli has been trained in hand signals, whistle commands and obedience. Be amazed at how well Chilli performs tasks and understand how these desired behaviors were taught in a way that encourages willful actions
Kenneth Sinclair – Career Considerations
Identify various creative and imaginative techniques that can be used to get a job and enrich your college experience. From networking to dining etiquette, learn what to do and what not to do in addressing 10 important factors to “getting the job” and improving your college experience.
Matthew Melone – Ethical Leadership in the 21st Century Workplace: Recognizing and Managing Conflicts Arising From Diversity, Autonomy, and Incentive Structures
Discuss and learn about ethical dilemmas posed by value conflicts that are inherent in the workplace. Many issues you will face are not susceptible to “off-the-shelf” solutions and you will need to draw from a range of past experiences and knowledge bases to craft creative solutions to these ever evolving issues.
Nancy Ross – Public Speaking: An Essential Skill for Leaders
There are FOUR factors of innovative leadership: Creativity, Mastery, Passion and Courage. Participate in activities that will make you think outside the box. Listen to stories about past and present innovative leaders and the challenges they had to deal with while playing Jeopardy! Come out of this presentation with a better understanding of how important it is to develop and deliver dynamic business and professional presentations.
James Maskulka – Leadership and Innovation: Perception vs. Emerging Reality?
There are many aspects of leadership and innovation that you never thought about in the past. Learn about innovation and leadership constructs to get a better understanding of what is needed to achieve your leadership potential. Learn through discussion and video clips how to connect creativity and imagination to realizing your leadership potential.
Katie Walsh Radande -- International Experience: A key component to leadership success
Katie Walsh Radande’s session will discuss the specific skills developed during an international experience, the types of experiences available, and the value of international experience to potential employers. Students will share some of their experiences and learn new ways to get involved in international experiences to enhance their education.
Steven Savino -- Personal Branding - "The Need to be Different"
Steven Savino will discuss how students can develop their own personal brand for job search, interviewing and on-going career development. The need to have a personal brand is becoming more and more important in the job world and this presentation will help students develop their own brand.
Douglas Mahony -- Cross Cultural Leadership: challenges, opportunities, and skills for success
Douglas Mahony will discuss why students should have a greater awareness of their own global mindset and how best to enhance their success when leading in a culturally diverse setting. He will touch on the challenges faced and possible solutions when interacting with a diverse group.
Robert Kuchta --From Creativity to Leadership
Robert Kuchta will discuss the need for creativity in developing oneself as an effective leader and to begin using problem-solving skills as a part of the daily routine. His business experience and academic case studies will provide examples of how important creativity is to leadership.
Kayshia Kruger and Adam Vodofsky – Planning a Major Concert: What It’s All About
By using concert and event planning as an example, Kayshia Kruger and Adam Vodofsky will demonstrate what it takes to organize, lead and manage a major event. The skills learned in this session can be applied to any leadership role, as it provides relevant information in how to run an event.
Chris Bello – Building Community Partnerships
Chris Bello will discuss how to create and foster relationships in the community. Projects such as community enhancement, campus wide initiatives and group activities are all powerful tools in developing community relations. Students will learn how to create, organize, facilitate and coordinate community and campus projects.
Robert Duquette – Leadership Through Collaborative Thinking: Unleashing Creativity in Others and Yourself Without Compromising Your Moral Compass
Robert Duquette will present on the ethical and moral challenges that people may face in a work environment. He will provide practical, creative solutions for how leaders can deal with peer and client pressures without compromising morals.
Alan Jennings – Challenging the Status Quo
Alan Jennings will talk about how to challenge the status quo in order to persevere speaking the truth. His community building experiences will provide examples for students to become agents of change.
