If you have been diagnosed with gastroenteritis, please follow this diet sheet. Start with solid fluids only. Progress gradually to solid food as tolerated.
If the following symptoms occur, please seek medical attention at the Health & Wellness Center or go to the ER in the event the Health & Wellness Center is not open:
- nausea or vomiting that impairs your ability to keep liquid down
- abdominal pain that is severe
- pain that is localized in the lower right abdominal region
Recommended foods when you have nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea:
- Ginger-ale, 7-Up, Coca-Cola (soda should be flat and caffeine free)
- Weak tea with lemon
- Clear broth
- Jell-o
- Crackers and pretzels
- Dry toast
- Bananas
- Rice
- Cooked cereal
Recommended foods to avoid when you have nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea:
- Milk
- Coffee
- Alcohol
- Fruit juices (especially citrus)
- Dairy products
- Greasy, fatty, or fried foods
- Spicy foods
- Raw vegetables
- Raw fruits (except bananas)
