Anticipatory Exam Overview
First-year first semester students may register for an Anticipatory Exam if they feel as though they have thorough knowledge of course material and want to take an exam to receive credit for a course prior to the start of their first year.
Anticipatory Exam Eligibility
First-year or transfer students who have not taken courses at Lehigh are eligible for an anticipatory exam. First-year students who are seeking to take an anticipatory exam in their second semester should complete an SOS petition to provide reasoning for choosing to take the exam after their first semester. Second-year or later students are not eligible for anticipatory exams and should instead apply to take a challenge exam.
Anticipatory Exam Registration
Anticipatory Exams are held the first and third week of the semester for incoming students. Students who need a course determination for Spring 2026 will need to select Week 1 on the registration form below. Students interested in taking a course in an upcoming semester (not Spring 2026), should select Week 3 on the registration form.
Anticipatory exam registration requests should be completed by Friday, January 9 at 12:00 Noon.
