- Attend class regularly, keep up with the reading and homework, and complete work for the class outside of your tutoring session. Remember, you get out of tutoring what you put into it so please come prepared to be an active participant.
- Studies show that regular weekly tutoring is effective and leads to better grades, so we ask that you attend your tutoring session on a regular weekly basis.
- Prepare for your tutoring session. Go to class, review your notes, do the homework, jot down a question or two about the material; the more you've done before your tutoring session, the more productive it will be.
- Communicate with your tutor. Share your expectations and work with your tutor to set some goals for your sessions. Be open to working with others at the session, take advantage of the opportunity to learn from your peers, and give feedback and make suggestions when appropriate.
- Be an active learner. Ask questions, do sample problems, go up to the board, draw diagrams, and explain course concepts in your own words.
- Seek help from your professors and TAs. They are the BEST resources when you are having trouble in a course, and they are here to help you!
- Visit the Professor, TA, or lab instructor associated with the course during office hours. Be sure to go prepared with questions about course material.
- Form your own study group. Review notes, solve problems, discuss key course concepts, quiz each other, and much more.
- Be sure to use your textbook as best you can, including any accompanying resources and websites. These often contain various study guides and aids.
- If you are having difficulty in a Math course, you may visit the Math Help Center located in Chandler-Ullmann.
- It is possible that by improving your time management and/or your study skills you would improve your performance in the course. Make an appointment with one of our academic coaches to discuss strategies for achieving your academic goals.
